Conifer Library History

Although the Conifer Library was among the first of the local libraries to join the Jefferson County Public Library system, it has never had its own facility. The Conifer Library joined JCPL in 1954 and in 1996 moved into the new Conifer High School. All other Jefferson County Libraries have been housed in buildings owned or rented by JCPL.

CAC has championed an effort to improve library services for several years. Through the results of the 2018 and 2022 surveys we learned that limited library access was high on the list of community concerns. We took the results of the surveys to JCPL’s Executives and Board, who used that data in their decision to create a stand-alone library.

The decision by JCPL provides the opportunity for community members to finally have one central gathering point – a hub – to meet and connect, to include before and after workday hours, to study, read, research and more.

It should be noted that all residents of Jefferson County, including Conifer, pay the same mill levy to support the public libraries.
