Are you interested in conserving your property?

Mountain Area Land Trust (MALT) works with private landowners and public partners to permanently protect Colorado’s natural areas, wildlife habitat, water resources, scenic landscapes, and working and historic lands.

One of the primary ways MALT protects land is through voluntary conservation easements. A conservation easement is a legal agreement between a landowner and a qualified land trust that permanently protects a property’s important conservation values while allowing the landowner to retain ownership. The property may still be sold or passed on to heirs, with agreed-upon protections remaining in place for future generations.

Since 1992, MALT has conserved nearly 30,000 acres throughout Jefferson, Clear Creek, Park, Boulder, Teller, and Gilpin counties. More than 30 percent of MALT’s 100-plus conservation easements are located in the Conifer area—helping preserve the landscapes that make this community such a special place to live.
