All Study / Action teams under the heading of COMMUNITY VISION have had a focus: to “claim” the character of the Conifer community, as determined by community residents, and develop strategies to preserve and enhance that character and the heritage of the Conifer area.
Conifer Area Council has established several FOCUS AREAS, gathered multiple plans from Jeffco that identified future development for Conifer, absorbed community comments from the surveys, talked with community members and organizations, generated a strategic plan and executed that plan.
Following is a summary of their FOCUS AREAS AND ACCOMPLISHMENTS:
- Architectural Design. Established guidelines for future development, a historical look with contemporary theme.
- Color Conifer. Identified locations and projects and worked with business owners to plant trees, plants and flowers to landscape key points in the community.
- Public Places / Streetscaping. Generated a detailed plan that provided several options to improve the flow of traffic, implement safety recommendations for pedestrians, and identified landscaping that provided a more aesthetically pleasing downtown area. Their vision was a Conifer Main Street Loop. To give you an example, this streetscape includes trails, trees, parking lots, bike lanes, planters, and planting beds.
- Land Preservation. Working with Mountain Area Land Trust, they identified properties that were promising for future trails and development/purchase by Jeffco Open Space and MALT. MALT is a local non-profit that works with individuals and private and public partners to conserve and protect Colorado’s water, wildlife and land for public use. MALT and CAC continue to work closely today.
- Historic Preservation. Worked with Jeffco Historical Commission, met with the Conifer Historical Society, visited several historical sites in the area and established communications with home and landowners to discuss future ways to preserve their history.
